Polo?

The prodigal son is returning for Halloween weekend. Let's play some polo (assuming the guys at Villa haven't hocked my polo bike for $5). I'll be in town Thursday through Monday, so I can play Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

Also, someone really should take over this blog...

Finally.

Sorry about the hiatus. We've been busy. We went to Indiana and got creamed in the nicest way possible. Played 7 games in the tournament and lost all 7, in fact we were 5-0'd in most of them, but hey, we learned a lot and drank some free booze. Not to mention made some great friends in Bloomington.

Then we went to Missouri, played a little pick up with our friends over at Kansas City Bike Polo.

In any case we're back now and we're playing this THURSDAY at 5:30pm at 6th Ave. Skatepark. Call or text me if you need directions. 281-224-8088

On a separate note. I'm moving to New York in about two weeks... anyone want to take over the blog and start organizing games in Nashville?

All my love and affection,
HANK

Indiana Invitational

NBP has been invited to the Indiana Invitational bike tournament. We will be one of 20 teams competing in this INVITATION ONLY tournament. Anyway we will be driving up to Bloomington Friday June 18th and returning either Saturday night or (if we want to stay for the after party) Sunday morning. Anyone who wants to join us is welcome, spectators and players alike. All sleeping accommodations will be taken care of and some of our food as well. The only cost will be gas and the $15 per team registration fee.

Let me know if you want to play so we can start putting teams together. Also we need a head count on who all is going pretty soon so we can let our gracious hosts know.

-----------------------

In other news we have a new home. We are now playing in the fully fenced in and wonderfully smooth court next to 6th Ave. Skatepark on 5th, right off of Lafyette st. downtown.

We are playing Wednesday and Thursday from about 4:30 until God knows when in preparation for the tournament.

Come play with us.

Welp...

We need a new spot to play polo. Last night in between games two young fellas dressed in all black with white bandanas moseyed on over to us brandishing a pistol. Unfortunately race relations are such in Nashville that on numerous occasions it has been made clear to us that we are not wanted in the neighborhood. I think we should just ALL start carrying guns, but I couldn't convince the rest of NBP on this idea.

So, keep on the lookout for new places to play polo... in areas that we won't be shot.

All my love and affection,
Hank

New Spot!

We had a great round of games yesterday at a new location. Keith and Devan found a great spot, it's a basketball court behind West End School in Elmington Park. We're not sure how it's going to work out for the long run, especially on school days before summer. Also, we had to jump a fence to get in, but the court was perfect; it was even fully fenced to it kept runaway balls to a minimum. We might try to get together again sometime this week, probably Wednesday, but if not expect another set of games this weekend.

Here's the spot:

Also, I made a decision on the logos since none of you jerks voted (except for Keith, thanks Keith). From talking to people there were two favorites, 1 and 4. What most people are saying (all three or so that I talked to) is that 1 is the best design but it looks more like a flyer or poster and less like branding wheres 4 is a straight up logo. That all being said I think we'll adopt both of them for now until someone submits a better design or something.

Any suggestions are very welcome.

BIKE POLO TOURNAMENT - CPCV09 from Renaud Skyronka on Vimeo.

Nashville Rules

Here are the bike polo rules that we play by:

-Two teams of three players.
-You can use any type of bike, as long as the handlebars are plugged.

-Mallets should be made of aluminum pipe with a end resembling a croquet mallet. The handle end should be plugged, and there should no exposed metal protruding. Except for bolt.
-Red or Orange street hockey balls will be used.

-Goals are two cones, set apart the same width as street hockey.

-If you mess up the goal, it is your responsibility to fix it.
-Scoring a goal must be made from what started as a hit. A hit is made from the end of a players mallet.

-A shuffle does not count as a goal.
-After a goal is scored, the team who scored returns to their half of the court. The team who was scored on takes possession of the ball.
-Passing through the goal (from behind the goal line to in front of it, through the goal): When the ball is passed through the goal in this way, a goal CANNOT be scored by the first player to play the ball. It must be passed first, before any shot on goal. This inclued when the ball misses the goal, but bounces back through the goal.
-Players must not touch the ground with their foot. If a player puts his/her foot on the ground (foot-down) the player cannot continue play until he has gone half court and tapped his/her mallet at half court.

-Contact rules: similar contact is allowed. Bike to Bike, Mallet to Mallet, Body to Body.

-Pushing and shoving with your hand is not allowed.

-T-boning (hitting your bike against the side of another bike) is not allowed.

-Everything else is NOT allowed: Mallet to player, player to bike, mallet to bike, etc.
-Throwing mallets is never allowed
-Trash talking is allowed.
